Midnight Madness Brevard can have its roots traced back to a 1973 scavenger hunt created by a Los Angeles graphic designer named Don. Teams competed all night long solving puzzles across L.A. for a $100 first prize. The game eventually drew the attention of the Los Angeles Times and later the Walt Disney company, who produced a movie called Midnight Madness, based on Luskin's game.
Over the course of time, similar games, inspired by the movie, have been put on all over the country (and even a few internationally), although most occur with little or no regularity. A few of these games took place in Brevard County, Florida in the mid 1990’s. It’s in these games that original members of the Midnight Madness Brevard organizing committee competed in. It was a discussion of these games over a dinner with friends in the summer of 2006 that led to the formation Midnight Madness Brevard. After a few months planning, the first game took place on October 14th 2006 and the games have been taking place on a tri-monthly basis ever since.
